The Armies of Legarion

Lion Knights

The mighty Kingdom of the Lion, there is no nobler house than the royal House Lionne. Our long history starts when the king of the Yellow Castle united the 6 original houses and founded the house of Lionne. Many powerful kings and queens have ruled our land, and our faction has known a lot of names trough the ages. Crusaders, Royal Kights, the Lion Kingdom, etc.

Our forefathers have fought many wars, against the Fright knights, Dragon Masters, and Cedric the Bull's Barbarians to name a few. No foe has ever crumbled the Lion Kingdom, it took a falling out between the Royal family and some of the more powerful houses to tear us appart. A bloody civil war broke out and split up our nation into Crown knights and Red Lions.

Hundreds of years later, once peace had returned and both new nations had fought their own seperate wars, Queen Eleonora Lionne of the Red Lions wanted to restore the Lion Kingdom of old. She did so through conquest and marriage, by wedding King Edward of the Crown Knights and defeating all lords and ladies who denied her the throne.

Queen Eleonora

Queen Eleonora Lionne, the Lioness

Eleonora Lionne comes from a long line of kings and queens who have done great things for the country. Her father was the previous king of the Red Lions, and he named his daughter after his great-grand-mother who was the last queen of the 'Lions of old' before the civil wars. In honour of her family, Eleonora reunited her Kingdom and restored it to its former glory. An even bigger challenge awaits the Lioness now, as old enemies have returned.

King Edward

King Edward the Valiant

Descendant of the baron who defied the royals of old, King of the Crown knights. Edward's mariage with Eleonora brought his kingdom back under the rule of the Lion knights, where it rightfully belongs. He now commands his Crown knights as a seperate unit as part of the Lion Knight army. Edward is a good king who is kind to his people. He does not back away from a fight and stands shoulder to shoulder with his warriors when a battle occurs.

Weaponsmaster Tyon

Weaponsmaster Tyon

Tyon is the most experienced knight in the Queen's army. A grumpy old man who takes his job very seriously, which makes him a very effecting commander and mentor. He started out serving her father as an archer during the war against the Green dragons and now serves the queen as her advisor. As weaponsmaster he is responsible for the weaponsroom, and the training of new recruits.

General Leoric

General Leoric

General of the Crown knights and right hand man of king Edward. Leoric is the most cunning warrior among the King's Guard. Weaponmaster Tyon is the only soldier who can keep up with Leoric's skill. While still young for a general, he has proven to be effective in battle. As a heavy knight he was stationed at the border and tasked to keep back the occasional trollparty. He quickly climbed up the ranks as his skill in the art of battle became apparent. His clever tactics result in decisive victories with minimal casualties.

Lion Knight Army

Army structure and equipment

The Lion's army is the combination of the Queen's Troops and the King's Guard.

The Queen's Troops

The Queen's Troops are recognisable by their red and blue tabards covering their armour. Standard infantry uniform consists of mail shirts and a nasal helmet, with extra plating around the shoulders for those who can afford it. They wield spears and arming swords, and often heater shields.

Heavy knights wore more protective armour, as their job was to get up close with the enemy with their heavy poleweapons and axes. They wore sturdy greathelms to protect their heads as they don't have shields.

The Lion Knights had a well trained archery batallion. Children across the kingdom were expected to train in archery as soon as they were able to pull back a light hunting bow. Equiped with heavy warbows or crossbows and wide rimmed kettle helmets, the archers were an essential part of the Lion knights' army.

The Queen's Troops also had a cavalry unit, consisting of the queen's personal guard. These experienced knighted wariors were personally selected by queen Eleonora to protect her and ride to battle on horseback.

The King's Guard

The main structure of the kings legion is very similar to the Queens Troops. His troops were mainly tasked with guarding the borders of the kingdom. They had crowns embroidered on the cloth of their uniforms or etched into the plates of their cuirasses.

The King's infanty was more heavily armoured and wore gambesons or scale armour, while his archery unit relied more on crossbows and wore scaled or lamelar armour.

The cavalry was allowed to personalise their kit a lot more than the queens personal guard. They could choose their prefered weapon and armour set.

Both King and Queen wielded Gemblades. They were symbols of their power. When the Royal couple showed up on a battlefield and drew their magical swords, the moral of their troops elevates and gives them the extra motivation they need to win a battle.
